Word from the University Secretary

Corporate Governance has become a global agenda as organizations are under pressure from stakeholders to be efficient and effective in service delivery.

Universities all over the world are under immense pressure to produce graduates who are globally competitive, can meet the demands of employers and can cause a positive change in the environment they leave in; and as Makerere University we cannot afford to ignore this demand.

In the quest to meet these challenges, Makerere University Council and its committees and Management have to be seen practicing good corporate Governance which demands openness; honesty and transparency; independence; accountability; responsiveness; fairness; observing reputation and reputation risks and ethical conduct when making and implementing decisions.

So, I call upon the Council members, staff, students, parents and other university stakeholders to observe these demands as “We Build for the Future.”

Mr. Charles Barugahare
University Secretary,
Secretary to Council and Accounting Officer
